Match report
Ben Potter; Star of the show!
It was a wet week up at Haigh Lane but as ever our great groundsman Steve Hardwick made sure a game was to be played. The credit must go to him as the match started on time without any stoppages. New skipper Sadler lost the toss and the Scholes captain Pamment chose to bowl.
As always, Dickinson and Sadler opened the batting and Dickinson (4) was gone after just four overs when Adam France bowled him. Morris and Sadler then looked good until Sadler was bowled at the other end by Andy Alsop. Aussie Cranmer (6) came in but failed to reach ten, as did new signing Amar Rashid (brother of yorkshire's Adil). Schofield soon followed them back to the pavillion as he went for 2. Alex Morris held the innings together and then just after reaching 5o he was out. Then Ben Potter came in under serious pressure to get a respectable total on the board. He watch Bandula go for 5 but then he reached 73 off just 40 balls. New keeper Mynett played well at the other end too and together they set Scholes at target of 194 to win.
Swaine new they must take wickets if they were to win. They struck early as ex-Skelmanthorpe star Wasim Jaffer was out LBW to Cranmer. Opener Boorman followed not long after as Bandula trapped him. Noble and Khan were building a partnership when Schofield stepped in and Noble was out for 40. Matthew Smith was later out before Khan made a very sporting decision to walk after the umpire hadn't given him out. Then Tom Brook watched three others go for under ten before he reached his fifty. Schofield had four wickets just a ball later when Brook stepped out of his crease and Mynett was on hand to do the rest. Alsop and Holmes batted out the last over for a point but all in all it was a great team performance.
